Michigan’s Home Help Payment Schedule 2026 pays caregivers weekly. Your exact pay date depends on when your service verification is submitted or received in CHAMPS, the state’s provider system.
This guide breaks down every 2026 pay date, the current hourly rates, and what to do if your payment is delayed.
Quick Summary
- Home Help is a Michigan Medicaid program that pays approved caregivers for daily help.
- 2026 rates are $17.13/hour for individual caregivers and $27.00/hour for agency providers.
- Payments go out on a rolling weekly basis, tied to a Friday 1 p.m. cutoff.
- Late or missed submissions push your payment back by a full week.
- You must be a Medicaid recipient who needs hands-on help with daily tasks. See our Medicaid Eligibility Calculator to check your status first.
What Is the Home Help Program?
Home Help is a Michigan Medicaid benefit. It pays a caregiver to help a Medicaid recipient with daily tasks at home.
The caregiver can be a relative, friend, neighbor, or agency worker. A spouse cannot be paid, and a parent cannot be paid to care for their own minor child.
Home Help falls under Michigan Medicaid’s personal care services. Your county Adult Services Worker sets your approved hours after an in-home assessment.
Who Qualifies for Home Help Payments in 2026?
You must already have Michigan Medicaid to get Home Help. Your income must fall within your state’s Medicaid limits, based on your household’s Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI). Our guide to Medicaid Eligibility in 2026 walks through the full rules step by step.
You also need a documented need for hands-on help with at least one daily living task, such as bathing, dressing, or mobility. A doctor or approved medical professional confirms this need, but your caseworker decides your weekly hours.
Who Can Be Your Paid Caregiver
- An adult child, sibling, grandchild, or other relative
- A friend or neighbor
- A licensed home care agency
- Anyone who passes a required background check
Who Cannot Be Paid
- Your spouse
- A parent caring for their own minor child
- Anyone under 18
Income Rules to Check First
Because Home Help sits inside Medicaid, your household’s countable income still has to meet state limits. If you’re unsure where your income falls, our Medicaid Income Limits by State in 2026 page shows the current thresholds by household size.
Home Help Payment Schedule 2026
Michigan pays Home Help caregivers weekly. Your payment date depends on the month you provided services and when your ESV (Electronic Service Verification) or PSV (Paper Service Verification) is submitted or received.
ESVs can be entered in CHAMPS the same day services happen. PSVs cannot be submitted until the first day of the month after services were provided.

This is a shortened view of the full state calendar. The complete DHS-1356 schedule covers every week of 2026.
The Friday cutoff rule: If your ESV isn’t submitted, or your PSV isn’t received, by 1 p.m. on any Friday, your payment moves to the following week. Warrants can also shift due to state holidays.
2026 Home Help Pay Rates
Michigan raised Home Help pay rates on January 1, 2026.
| Provider Type | 2026 Hourly Rate |
|---|---|
| Individual caregiver (family, friend, neighbor) | $17.13 |
| Agency provider | $27.00 |
The individual rate combines Michigan’s $13.73 minimum wage with a $3.40 state pass-through, set under Public Act 337 of 2018. Many recipients are approved for up to 180 hours a month, though your county caseworker sets your exact hours based on assessed need.
These figures apply only to Home Help. For a broader look at what Michigan Medicaid pays providers across other services, see the Medicaid Fee Schedule in 2026.
How to Get Paid on Time
- Confirm your Medicaid case is active. Home Help pay stops if Medicaid eligibility lapses.
- Enter your ESV the same day you provide care, or submit it for the full month on the last day.
- Submit PSVs starting the 1st of the following month if you use paper forms.
- Submit before 1 p.m. Friday to stay on schedule.
- Fax paper forms to 517-763-0111, or mail them to MDHHS Adult Home Help, PO Box 26007, Lansing, MI 48909.
- Watch for holiday delays around major federal holidays.
What Happens After You Submit?
Once your ESV or PSV is received, MDHHS processes it and issues an estimated warrant. Direct deposit (EFT) typically arrives faster than a mailed check.
If a submission comes in after the Friday cutoff, expect a one-week delay. Call the Home Help line at 800-979-4662 if a payment is more than a few days late.
Home Help Payment Schedules Outside Michigan
“Home help” also describes caregiver support in other countries. These programs are separate from Michigan Medicaid and follow their own rules.
United Kingdom — Attendance Allowance and Carer’s Allowance Attendance Allowance pays £76.70 a week (lower rate) or £114.60 a week (higher rate) from April 2026, paid every 4 weeks. Carer’s Allowance pays £86.45 a week in 2026/27, with an earnings limit of £204 a week.
United States — VA Aid and Attendance This veterans’ benefit is paid monthly, in arrears, on the first business day of the month. When that date falls on a holiday or weekend, payment moves to the last business day before it.
Ireland — Carer’s Allowance Ireland’s Carer’s Allowance pays €270 a week for carers under 66, and €308 a week for carers 66 and older, as of January 2026. The weekly income disregard used in the means test rose sharply on July 2, 2026.
FAQ
Q: When are Michigan Home Help payments made in 2026?
A: Payments go out weekly, tied to when your ESV or PSV is submitted. Submissions received by 1 p.m. Friday stay on the normal weekly schedule. Later submissions push your payment to the following week. Holidays can add extra delay.
Q: What is the 2026 Home Help pay rate?
A: Individual caregivers earn $17.13 an hour. Agency caregivers earn $27.00 an hour. Both rates took effect January 1, 2026, and include Michigan’s minimum wage plus a state pass-through amount.
Q: Can my spouse get paid through Home Help?
A: No. Michigan does not allow a spouse to be the paid Home Help caregiver. Other relatives, friends, neighbors, and agency workers can qualify. Ask your MDHHS caseworker about other options if a spouse is the main caregiver.
Q: Why was my Home Help payment delayed?
A: Late submission is the most common reason. If your ESV or PSV arrives after 1 p.m. Friday, payment moves a full week later. State holidays can also delay warrant delivery, even with a timely submission.
Q: Do I need Medicaid to qualify for Home Help?
A: Yes. Home Help is a Medicaid benefit. You must already meet your state’s Medicaid income and eligibility rules before you can be approved for paid caregiver hours.
Q: How many hours can a Home Help caregiver be paid for?
A: Your county Adult Services Worker sets your approved hours after an in-home assessment. Many people are approved for up to 180 hours a month, but your exact hours depend on documented daily living needs.
