What Is the Home Help Program?

Home Help is a Michigan Medicaid benefit. It pays a caregiver to help a Medicaid recipient with daily tasks at home.

The caregiver can be a relative, friend, neighbor, or agency worker. A spouse cannot be paid, and a parent cannot be paid to care for their own minor child.

Home Help falls under Michigan Medicaid’s personal care services. Your county Adult Services Worker sets your approved hours after an in-home assessment.

Who Qualifies for Home Help Payments in 2026?

Home Help Payment Schedule 2026

Michigan pays Home Help caregivers weekly. Your payment date depends on the month you provided services and when your ESV (Electronic Service Verification) or PSV (Paper Service Verification) is submitted or received.

ESVs can be entered in CHAMPS the same day services happen. PSVs cannot be submitted until the first day of the month after services were provided.

The Friday cutoff rule: If your ESV isn’t submitted, or your PSV isn’t received, by 1 p.m. on any Friday, your payment moves to the following week. Warrants can also shift due to state holidays.

2026 Home Help Pay Rates

Michigan raised Home Help pay rates on January 1, 2026.

The individual rate combines Michigan’s $13.73 minimum wage with a $3.40 state pass-through, set under Public Act 337 of 2018. Many recipients are approved for up to 180 hours a month, though your county caseworker sets your exact hours based on assessed need.

How to Get Paid on Time

1. Confirm your Medicaid case is active. Home Help pay stops if Medicaid eligibility lapses.
2. Enter your ESV the same day you provide care, or submit it for the full month on the last day.
3. Submit PSVs starting the 1st of the following month if you use paper forms.
4. Submit before 1 p.m. Friday to stay on schedule.

What Happens After You Submit?

Once your ESV or PSV is received, MDHHS processes it and issues an estimated warrant. Direct deposit (EFT) typically arrives faster than a mailed check.

Home Help Payment Schedules Outside Michigan

United Kingdom — Attendance Allowance and Carer’s Allowance Attendance Allowance pays £76.70 a week (lower rate) or £114.60 a week (higher rate) from April 2026, paid every 4 weeks. Carer’s Allowance pays £86.45 a week in 2026/27, with an earnings limit of £204 a week.

United States — VA Aid and Attendance This veterans’ benefit is paid monthly, in arrears, on the first business day of the month. When that date falls on a holiday or weekend, payment moves to the last business day before it.
