Nevada’s expanded Medicaid program covers adults up to 138% of the FPL, as required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Pregnant Women (190% FPL)
Nevada recently increased the income eligibility for pregnant women to 190% of FPL through State Plan Amendment (SPA) #25-0006, effective July 1, 2025.

Children – Nevada Check Up/CHIP (205% FPL)
Nevada Check Up is the state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Children whose household income exceeds Medicaid limits but falls below 205% of FPL may qualify for CHIP.

Nevada Check Up premiums for eligible children are charged quarterly ($25, $50, or $80 per family depending on income). American Indian and Alaska Native families are exempt from premiums.
Who Qualifies for Nevada Medicaid?
Eligibility Groups
Adults age 19-64 with income at or below 138% FPL qualify, including adults with or without dependent children.
Pregnant women with income up to 190% FPL qualify as of July 1, 2025. Coverage extends for 60 days postpartum.
Children ages 6 through 18 are eligible for Medicaid with household income at or below 138% FPL, with the option for Nevada Check Up (CHIP) coverage up to 205% FPL.
Nevada automatically provides Medicaid to SSI recipients who meet categorical requirements.
Special income and asset limits apply for the Aged, Blind, and Disabled (ABD) category, which covers seniors 65 and older, blind individuals, and disabled individuals.
How Income Is Calculated
Nevada uses the Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) methodology to calculate income for most Medicaid programs.
Counted Income:
- Wages and salaries
- Self-employment income
- Interest and dividends
- Social Security benefits
- Unemployment benefits
Not Counted:
- Child support payments
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Non-taxable Indian casino income (for federally recognized tribal members)
Asset Limits for Nevada Medicaid
Single applicants must have no more than $2,000 in countable assets. Married applicants (both applying) must have no more than $3,000 in combined countable assets.
Countable Assets:
- Checking and savings accounts
- Stocks and bonds
- Investment properties
Exempt Assets:
- Primary residence (if applicant or spouse lives there)
- One vehicle
- Household furnishings and personal items
In 2025, the maximum home equity allowed while remaining eligible is $730,000.
Important: There is no asset test for most Medicaid categories (family medical, pregnant women, children, adults without children).
